Good Quality Workwear and Where to Find it

Want to know where you can shop for good quality workwear? These are some of my favorite stores to find the best quality clothes to invest in a good quality wardrobe!

I know we have all been trapped in the cycle of buying cheap clothing that gets worn out after a few uses or destroyed after one wash. When shopping for clothes, you want to keep in mind the quality of the clothes. Think of your clothing as an investment. Especially your clothes for work. The better quality clothes you’re wearing, the better you look. The better you look, the better you feel.

That is the main reason why I am here. I’ve talked about my story for why I started blogging but I am going to give another short explanation. A few months after I graduated from college, I got a job as a secretary at a Prosecutor’s Office. Before I got this job, I never really cared about fashion. I dressed for comfort. Days when I would dress up always felt good, but my style was leggings and hoodies on daily a basis.

Then I got this job, and I had to start dressing up for work. I started shopping for work clothes and I struggled at first finding cute work clothes in petite sizes. When I could find cute clothes that fit well, I felt so good about myself. I started gaining so much confidence. I wanted to help other women feel that same confidence. Which is why I’m here!

Cheap vs. Affordable

Although not all these stores are affordable, the first thing we need to go over is that there is a difference between cheap and affordable. Cheap is something that is low in price, while affordable is something reasonably priced.

$13 for a button-down blouse may sound affordable and $35 may sound expensive. You have to look at the quality. The $13 blouse is much more likely to be a thin and see-through material that is not going to last as long. That is what is considered cheap. A $35 blouse is more likely to be of higher quality with better material that will last longer. This is considered an affordable price.

1. Banana Republic

The first and my favorite store to shop at for workwear, especially petite, is Banana Republic. I have an entire post, The Perfect Everyday Work Pants, about my fave tried and true petite work pants!

Banana Republic is an American clothing retailer that is owned by Gap Inc. Banana Republic is a little more on the pricey side, but of higher quality. I tend to only shop at Banana Republic for those certain quality items that are worth the splurge.

If you want to splurge and the prices are too high, you can always shop at Banana Republic Factory! The quality might go down a little bit, but still good.

2. LOFT

LOFT is another store that can be on the pricier side. It was originally called Ann Taylor Loft and is owned by Ann Inc, as well as Ann Taylor.

3. Ann Taylor

Ann Taylor is another brand that is a little bit on the pricier but worth it for the quality! They carry a great selection for career women in sizes including petite. Although LOFT does carry work office attire, they lean in the more casual style. Ann Taylor is targeted more at professional women.

4. Zara

Zara is a Spanish clothing retailer and one of the largest in the world. One of my favorite things about shopping for workwear at Zara is that everything you get there is always stylish and trendy. Some of their pieces can be a little bold and daring, but that’s the fun in fashion!

5. Everlane

Fast fashion is something that is being talked about a lot more in today’s society. A lot of us are being more conscious of where and who we are buying our clothes from Everlane is a perfect option for you if you are looking for a clothing brand that is more sustainable and environmentally friendly. They pride themselves on their ethical fashion and great quality clothes that will last a long time!

6. Uniqlo

Uniqlo is a Japanese clothing company that provides great quality clothing at an affordable price. This retailer is for sure one of those hidden gems that not a lot of people know about. You will definitely find some good quality workwear and street fashion here!

7. Express

Express is another brand that is on the pricey side. They carry good quality, stylish workwear, and trendy clothing. From wardrobe essentials to the latest trends, with clothing designed for real-life versatility.

8. Target

Target carries cute and stylish brands like Universal Threads and A New Day. The clothing from Target is extremely affordable and of good quality. One thing I really love about Target’s apparel is how universal the clothing items are for different occasions. And come on, who doesn’t love shopping at Target?!

This post was all about Good Quality Workwear and Where to Find It. I hope you guys enjoyed this post!

I’m not sure how I’ve gone so many fall/winters without the ultimate cozy piece – the sweater dress – but I made it my goal to find the perfect one. This sweater dress was a great unexpected find from Amazon for under $35! I love how versatile sweater dress can be. Which means I had to create a How to Style a Sweater Dress (Work to Weekend) post!

The weight of this knit is on the thinner / light side. But the quality is fantastic. It also comes in so many colors!

This is one of my favorite winter work looks. It’s super simple, chic, and cozy! I added on a belt to accentuate my waist and to accessorize the look.

I am also a huge fan of pattern tights right now and am completely obsessed with these houndstooth tights for work. They had such a fun twist to the look!

There are so many ways you can play around with this outfit. For instance, if you wanted to add an extra layer to this look, you could throw on a boyfriend fitted blazer. You could also complete the look by wrapping a belt around your waist over the blazer.

For my casual look, I had cozy and comfy in mind! I traded in my belt for this blanket scarf and my pumps for some OTK boots, and I had the perfect winter comfy, casual look!

If you wanted to dress up this look just the tiniest bit, you could drape the blanket scarf around your shoulders like a cape. You could wrap a belt over the scarf, too. As a result, you won’t be masking your beautiful silhouette!

I hope you enjoyed my How to Style a Sweater Dress (Work to Weekend) post. Let me know if you’d like to see more work to weekend posts like this!

Simple and Easy Winter Outfits for Work

Simple and Easy Winter Outfits for Work

I don’t know about anyone else, but I get in such a style rut in the winter for cute work outfits. All I can think about on cold winter mornings when I’m getting ready is how I can be warm and comfortable! So I put together a few simple winter work outfits that you can easily replicate!

Keeping your work wardrobe to neutral colors with a few fun and bold signature colors makes dressing easy, AND it looks sophisticated.

You can never go wrong with a closet full of basics and essentials. The possibilities and style combinations are endless when you have everything you need in your wardrobe. Here are some Simple and Easy Winter Outfits for Work I put together with some great pieces that you can easily play around with and recreate from your closet!

winter work outfits
1. Sweater dress, tights, and a belt

This is super simple but also such a chic look for work. You can style this same look with many different sweater dresses. I also used these houndstooth patterned tights to make the outfit fun!

2. A fitted or ribbed long sleeve shirt and a tweed skirt

My absolute favorite thing to wear in the winter is tweed. I paired this tweed wrap skirt with a ribbed long sleeve shirt and some black pumps. I chose not to for this outfit because my office can get a little warm in the winter, but you can also add a pair of tights. If your office is business casual, you could also swap the pumps for some black tall boots!

3. A sweater and a pencil skirt

You can never go wrong with a classic pencil skirt in any season. Here is a great option to keep that classic look while also staying warm on your morning commute! I found this super cute pearled beaded collared sweater, but I also like to layer a collared shirt under sweaters for a lovely layered look. Tuck the sweater into your skirt, add some tights, and you got a chic outfit for the office!

4. Wide leg pants and a sweater

Wide leg pants may not be many people’s first choice for a winter outfit, but worn with a pair of booties, or even with some tights underneath for extra warmth, they are a perfectly cozy and comfy outfit piece!

5. A blouse, blazer, and midi skirt

This is a great option that you can replicate easily and style in so many different ways. You can play with so many combinations using this outfit inspo!

how to build a business casual capsule wardrobe

 Jackets and Outerwear

For jackets and outerwear, I decided to stick with the staples. If you want to be minimalistic for your capsule wardrobe, a classic trench coat is all you need! Trench coats are the perfect piece that can be worn when it’s colder out or when there’s just a slight breeze. They won’t be too heavy!

You need a blazer or two in a business casual capsule wardrobe, so I chose the ones above! I believe that everyone needs a plaid blazer in their business casual wardrobe. They’re usually neutral but also add some life to your outfit! I would also recommend having a black blazer, as well.

The last piece of outerwear you need is a cardigan (Not entirely sure this counts as outerwear, but we’re going to roll with it). But they are perfect for throwing on when the weather starts cooling down, but it’s not cold enough to bring out the jackets yet. I am a firm believer that everyone needs a good cardigan or two in their closet. I have too many to count because I am ALWAYS chilly in my office. But if you don’t wear cardigans too often, I would still suggest having one or two to style and add some layers to your fall outfit.

Tops and Dresses

When it comes to tops, the easiest thing to do is start will solid colors. A plain black or white button-up is always a staple in any work wardrobe.
I also wanted to throw in a cami, too! I personally always try to keep a few in my closet. They are perfect for layering and switching out throughout the seasons.
I also included a black sheath dress. Sheath dresses are a staple in business casual wardrobes, and that’s why I knew I wanted to add one. These styles will make you look slim while accenting your waist! Dresses are such an easy go-to when it comes to a business casual wardrobe.

Bottoms

Pants and skirts are a must in any workwear wardrobe! These are no exception to that. I wanted to round up five that you could mix and match to give you the most amount of options! I wanted to make sure I incorporated styles that everyone could love/wear! Pencil skirts look great when worn with a tank/blouse and a blazer. I also threw a little bit more pattern in there with the plaid print one!
I went simple with a black and navy blue pair of slacks for pants and threw in a brick red pair for a little fall color.

It’s always fun to add a little color and pattern into your wardrobe, but having at least one pair of black and one pair of blue pants that can go with everything is necessary for a capsule wardrobe!

Shoes and Accessories

When it comes to accessories and shoes, I wanted to go classic and simple. I chose black and beige block heels and a classic black loafer flat with a cute gold chain detail for shoes. These can work with whatever outfit you’re wearing OR any mood you happen to be in!

I also wanted to go with a classic and simple design for the purses as well. I LIVE out of my tote bag for work, and it allows me to carry everything I could need! I selected this black tote and a small beige crossbody. I sometimes like to take a small crossbody in my work tote for days when I run out on my lunch break and don’t want to lug around my huge and heavy tote.

The remaining accessories are a Burberry lookalike scarf, a black belt with gold detailing, gold hoop earrings, a pinkish beige watch, and a pair of black tights!

I think every woman needs a classic black belt in her closet! I also felt a good statement earring works well too! This pair is gold, which will match the metal in the belt and watch.

I think a pair of tights is one of the essential accessories in a fall or winter business casual wardrobe. They can elevate any outfit and will keep you warm on your cold commute!
